Happy First Birthday!!!

Hi Everyone!  I have been very lax at posting to my blog, but hoping to turn over a new leaf and posting regularly.  I wanted to share this adorable card I created for my granddaughter's first birthday.  It is actually a take off from a card designed by the talented
Jenny Dix.  She is one of my favorite card designers and I really love the work that she creates.  Her card is part of her design team contribution to La-La Land Crafts . Check out Jenny's great designs and the wonderful products at La-La Land Crafts.

I changed up Jenny's design by adding the Squidgy Castle image from StampingBella, colored with Copic Markers.  The other stars on this popup box card are from La-La land Crafts , the Tutu Cute Bears.

The back was created using the number one stamp from the Birthday Numbers stamp set from Simon Says Stamp , the Scalloped Rectangle Stackables from Lawn Fawn and a Happy Birthday die from The Greeting Farm .

The card would not be complete without the Scalloped Box Card PopUp die from Lawn Fawn , plus all of the decorative dies from La-La Land.  I used the Ribbon Corner Die , Filigree Bow Die , Stitched Bow Die , the Filigree Elements Border Set Die and the Tall Castle Die .

Because it was my granddaughters first birthday, I had a "smash" cake made to match the card.
Here is a photo!

Here are a couple photos of the birthday girl.  Scroll to the end for a complete list of supplies and the Copic Markers I used.

Isn't she a cutie?

Power & Spark Challenge-October 2017

    Hi Everyone!

This months challenge at the Power Poppy blog is called Mini and Mighty.  We are to create a card that is less than four inches.  I am typically a 5x7 girl, so this was rather fun!  Because of the small size, I thought a set of these would make a great gift for a few of my co-workers this holiday season.  I thought I would do sets of four, incorporating my organic design element from the Potted Primroses clear stamp set with some geometric wood veneer from my stash.  I love mixing these two types of components--Rigid graphic lines and the softness of flowers and leaves.  Thank you for stopping by!  Jane

Power & Spark Challenge-September 2017

Super fun challenge this month at Power Poppy.  The challenge was to use kraft card stock in your card.  I am normally a Copic girl, but when I hear kraft, I automatically reach for my colored pencils.  I just love the look of this technique.  I used the digital stamp, Luminous Bouquet, printed it with a laser printer on my kraft cardstock.  I used Rose Gold foil and a Minc machine to foil the image.  I have created a list of supplies and pencil colors at the end of this blog post.  Thanks for stopping by!

2017 Card Design Superstar: Clean & Simple Genius Challenge

    Hi Everyone!

It is that time of year again, where everyone has been coloring up a storm.  My latest endeavor is to participate in the My Favorite Things Design Superstar Challenge.  My blog is fairly new, so this year has been my time to give some of these card challenges a try.  You can't win if you don't play, right?  I decided to try my hand at the Clean & Simple challenge, featuring my all time favorite stamp set, Birdie Brown's Santas Elves.  This is an older stamp set, but I have a feeling it is one that will never be retired.  It is so cute!!!

I started by finding a line image of a Christmas tree on a website named http://cliparts.com.  I printed this image onto some heavy weight card stock and used my Brother Scan n Cut 2 to cut the image out.  I resized the image by 1/4 inch, and cut it again out of gold card stock.  This created the window on the front of my card.

For the rest of the card, I used Copic markers and heat embossed the sentiments, frame and the star with gold embossing powder.  I used my Judykins Color Dusters to add some Cracked Pistachio Distress ink to the background.

And voila' we have our clean and simple card.  A list of supplies is provided at the end of this post, if you choose to duplicate any of the colors or design.

    I hope you like it!!

    Mix It Up Challenge-August 2017

Hi Everyone!  I started this quest from the inspiration photo that was published on the Power Poppy blog.  Mr Tibbs, a new puppy acquired by the owner, is an adorable Corgi.  He was just too sweet to ignore.

The pink color that we were supposed to use screamed flowers, so I added a digital image from the Power Poppy shop called Easy Breezy Coneflowers.

Coincidentally, the August challenge is called Mix and Match, which we are asked to combine images from two different places.  Two digital, two clear stamp sets or a digital and a clear.  I used Windows Accessories Paint to turn Mr Tibbs into a digital image and added the digital coneflowers to create my image.  I never tackled something so large, but am pretty happy with the final results.  Hope you like Mr Tibbs!!

    Thanks for stopping by,  Jane

    Power & Spark Challenge-July 2017

    Hi Everyone!

I just had to get involved with this July challenge at Power Poppy.  The challenge is titled "Copy A Bloomie".  I always feel so guilty if I use someone else's idea (I must say that when I do, I do get permissions.), but this challenge is telling me it is okay!!  As I poured over all of the wonderful blog posts of Power Poppy's Bloom Brigade, I finally decided on a fantastic card by Allison Cope.  She must be my secret mentor, because to create her card, I had almost all of the identical supplies already in my studio.  Here is the link to the photo of Allison's card.  Gorgeous!!

To begin, I was "asked" to create backgrounds with the new Distress Oxide inks.  This alone was so fun!  I had not had a chance to play with them yet, so another excuse to get creative.  I used the Halftone stencil from Altenew to add another layer of inks. After a few hours of playing, I decided on two backgrounds which I thought were appropriate for this card.

The next layer I used the die from My Favorite Things, Peek-A-Boo Polka Dots to create holes over the entire surface.  Allison used wood grain card stock (which I did not have), but I ran my card through a wood grain embossing folder from Tim Holtz/Sizzix to create the same effect.

I believe Allison had the Dynamic Duos: Peonies & Tulips stamp set and I had the Tulips Digital Stamp set.  Since Allison had the clear stamp, she was able to use gold embossing powder to stamp her tulip design.  I had the digital version, so I used gold foil and my Minc machine to achieve a similar effect.  I used gold embossing for my Happy Birthday sentiment from a Gina K Design stamp set and created the gold stripe pattern on Microsoft Word and used my Minc machine again.

I created two tulip images, one watercoloring with Distress Oxides and a second one with Copic Markers.  Let me know which method you like better.  This card was full of interesting techniques and so much fun to duplicate.  Thank you Allison for your inspiration!!  I hope it meets with your approval.

    Thanks for stopping by,  Jane

    Sweet Birthday

Hi Everyone!  Just wanted to share this card I colored up using a digital image from The Paper Shelter  .
My mother-in-law has always been a big fan of anything from the 50's, so when I saw this, I knew I had to give this to her on a card.

This was my first try with the Nuvo Embellishment Mousse  I applied it with a palette knife through a stencil, and loved the results.Has all of the sparkle that you probably have heard.  I have plans to get a few at a time and get the complete set.  (Yes, I have it too.  CSS.  Complete Set Syndorme)

The inside of this card , I used a simple patterned paper from Melissa Frances.  Such a pretty paper, so all I needed to do was mat it and adhere to the inside.
